Meet Our Students

Denise Anderson

As a girl in Bradley, Arkansas, Denise Anderson’s parents struggled with personal issues, and she found herself struggling to learn in school. She could not read, and since she could not keep up with her classmates, she stopped going before 10th grade. She married, and the family moved to several different cities while raising their four children.

Olive Watson

When Kayla Watson learned about the beginning Spanish class for Kids at the Literacy Council, she knew it was an enrichment activity that would be a perfect addition to her family’s homeschool routine.

Michael Sasser

Michael Sasser found his way to the Literacy Council of Bowie and Miller Counties three years ago on a recommendation from his probation officer. Sasser had heard about an 80-year-old man who got a GED in Arkansas, and he felt inspired to do the same.

Twice as Healthy

For those who are interested in getting more active, we have a self-paced fitness class that meets virtually. Whether you are walking or training with our half-marathon group, we would love to help you meet your health and wellness goals.

Volunteer and tutor Training

Beginning in October, we will have online volunteer and tutor training available for those interested in joining our team!

Train on your own time in the comfort of your own home. Nervous about completing the training online? No worries! You can also schedule a time to come into our office and we can get you started!
Prepare for the ACT college entrance exam and learn about the college admissions and scholarship process. There are two options for this class - in-person on Monday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:30 or online.

Fall Schedule Classes

Students interested in earning a GED or strengthening reading, math, or other academic skills can work with our tutors one-on-one or in small groups to prepare for success.
